To those hurting this Christmas
For most, Christmas means happiness.
The carols bring smiles to faces as people sing the words they know by heart.
The excitement of the season draws people outside to visit
friends, stores, and church.
The decorations offer a familiarity that calms the soul and
warms the heart.
But for some, this holiday gives no peace.
Instead, as they connect with memories, emotions overwhelm them.
Sadness. Grief. Pain. Loss. Confusion.
To those who are hurting this Christmas—
I am sorry.
I don’t know exactly what you are going through.
Maybe it's your first Christmas without a loved one
Maybe most of your family members are too far away to visit
Maybe you’ve recently let go of some big dream
Maybe your future seems uncertain
Maybe you are just tired from a difficult year
Even though we don't always know how to help, we want to support you. We want you to be honest with us. We want to care for you. We want to suffer alongside you. And if no one seems to be doing that for you, know that there is Someone who is. God sees it all, the highs and the lows, this Christmas.
He sees your hidden tears
He sees you faking a grin when you feel empty inside
He sees you trying to be there for everyone else
He sees you “making it through” December
He sees you
And as you rest in His love, remember that a true Christmas
season is not supposed to be all about joy. Looking at Jesus brings us to the fullness of the gospel—from
grief to hope—an expression of every emotion. So, it is okay if your season
looks different than someone else’s. Keep going. We love you.
